1.  Create a table with the data you would like to graph.  Write the name of the two numeric variables at the top of the table.  The predictor variable should be in the first column and the response variable in the second column.

2.  Highlight the entire table (including the headers).  Go to the insert tab and select the first option under the scatter graphs.

3.  Format as usual.

4. If a trend line would be helpful to understanding your data, select Add Chart Element>Trendline.  Then pick the type of trend line you would like and select it. The Linear trend line option corresponds to Linear Regression, which you will learn about later this semester.

5.  If you would like to change the appearance of the trend line, double click on the line.  The “Format Trendline” tab will appear on the right.  Select the paint bucket and then select the options you want for your graph.

If you would like to display the equation of the line on the graph, select the bars to the right of the paint bucket and pentagon.  Then, select the option to “Display Equation on chart”.

6.  If you have multiple groups of your response variables (ex. juvenile vs. adult), create an additional column in your table so that you can display the two groups.  Then, highlight the whole table to display all of data on one graph.

Or, you can use the select data option in the Chart Design tab:

Then add or edit a series:

Here, you can select a title for each series and the data you want to include:
